The Poor harvests
Beginning in the late 1780s, the country experienced poor harvests. Other economic troubles added to the financial crisis. A general economic decline had begun in the 1770s. In the late 1780s, bad harvests sent food prices to rise higher and brought hunger to poorer peasants and city dwellers. Hard times of lack of food made the people angry. People started rioting and demanding bread. Out in the country, peasants began to attack noble houses.
